When electricians, facility teams, and energy managers need to measure power in live systems, safety is often just as important as accuracy. Traditional voltage measurement methods can require contact with metal terminals, increasing the risk of short circuits, accidental shutdowns, and electrical injury. The Hioki Clamp On Power Logger PW3365 is designed to reduce that risk by enabling safer voltage measurement with fully covered voltage clips and clamp-based current sensing for practical field power logging. Hioki describes the PW3365 as the world’s first non-metallic contact power meter that uses completely covered voltage clips, allowing users to attach the sensor to cables or busbars without metal contact.
One of the PW3365’s strongest advantages is its safety-focused design. Hioki explains that its no-metal-contact voltage sensor makes it possible to measure voltage simply by clamping the sensor around an insulated wire, eliminating the risk of short circuits caused by metal contact with live components. This approach also simplifies setup in situations where terminals are covered, since users can clip the sensor around the cable without removing the cover.
The PW3365 is also built for practical power and energy monitoring in the field. Hioki states that it supports single-phase to three-phase, 4-wire circuits, with voltage measurement from 90 V to 520 V, and can log a wide range of power parameters to support energy audits and validation of energy-saving measures. Hioki also notes that current and power measurement require compatible clamp-on current sensors, sold separately.
For users who need more than basic power logging, the PW3365 includes harmonic analysis capability. Hioki says the instrument can display harmonics up to the 13th order, including total harmonic distortion and harmonic content for each order, helping users assess the effects of harmonics on 50/60 Hz power lines. This can be especially useful when investigating power quality concerns linked to the 5th and 7th harmonics.
Another practical strength is ease of use. Hioki’s Quick Set feature provides graphical guidance for setup and can flag incorrect connections with a FAIL message, helping users reduce wiring mistakes before recording begins. The PW3365 also stores months of data on SD cards, displays recorded results as graphs, and supports LAN and USB communication for data download and remote settings.
For professionals responsible for energy audits, facility maintenance, and live power system monitoring, the Hioki PW3365 offers a strong combination of safety, convenience, and useful power analysis functions. Its clamp-based design, guided setup, and harmonic display capability make it a practical solution for safer power logging in real working environments.
