Hioki FT6031-50 Earth Tester for Faster and More Reliable Ground Resistance Testing

Proper earthing is essential for electrical safety, equipment protection, and dependable system performance. The Hioki FT6031-50 Earth Tester is designed to make ground resistance testing faster and easier in the field by combining two-pole and three-pole measurement capability, strong noise resistance, and a rugged waterproof design. Hioki describes the FT6031-50 as an IP67 dustproof and waterproof earth tester with a large display, highly sensitive earthing rods, and an innovative cable winder that reduces setup time during testing.

One of the FT6031-50’s biggest advantages is its field-ready design. Hioki states that the instrument is rated IP67 and can be used in muddy, dusty, and demanding outdoor environments. The housing is built to keep out dust and water, and Hioki notes that the unit can even be rinsed clean with water after use. This makes it especially practical for contractors, utility crews, and maintenance teams working in less controlled jobsite conditions.

The FT6031-50 is also built to improve testing efficiency. Hioki explains that users can select either the two-pole or three-pole method, and the instrument automatically switches its internal connection when the selection key is pressed, so there is no need for a short bar or extra fixture. The tester also automates the measurement flow by performing ground potential check, supplemental grounding electrode check, and grounding resistance measurement in sequence after pressing the measure key.

From a performance standpoint, the FT6031-50 supports a 0 Ω to 2000 Ω ground resistance range with measurement ranges of 20 Ω, 200 Ω, and 2000 Ω. Hioki specifies accuracy of ±1.5% rdg with varying digit counts by range, and the instrument measures earth voltage from 0 to 30.0 V rms. It also offers an allowable earth potential of 25.0 V rms, which Hioki says improves stable measurement performance even in noisier environments where earth voltage is present.

Another practical strength is setup speed. Hioki highlights its thin stainless-steel supplemental grounding rods, increased allowable resistance for supplemental grounding electrodes, and tangle-free cable winders that can rewind cords about twice as fast as reels. These features are intended to reduce both preparation time and cleanup time, helping technicians complete more tests efficiently in the field.

The FT6031-50 also supports modern reporting workflows. When used with the optional Wireless Adapter Z3210, Hioki says measurement data can be sent to smartphones or tablets through the free GENNECT Cross app, where users can manage results, create reports, attach site photos, and transfer values directly into Excel files. For teams that need better traceability and faster documentation, this adds useful value beyond the measurement itself.

For electricians, maintenance teams, utilities, and field service professionals, the Hioki FT6031-50 offers a practical combination of ruggedness, ease of use, and efficient earth resistance measurement. Its portable design, automatic testing flow, and strong environmental protection make it a strong solution for day-to-day grounding verification work.
