Use partial discharge testing to support smarter cable maintenance.
Partial discharge activity can indicate insulation weakness in cable systems. BAUR PD equipment helps technical teams move beyond simple pass/fail testing and collect condition information that supports repair prioritization, asset planning, and risk reduction.
01
Detect insulation issues
PD testing helps identify discharge activity associated with insulation defects, accessories, joints, or terminations before severe failures occur.
02
Choose online or offline testing
Use online spot testing for cable routes during normal operation, or portable offline diagnostics with BAUR VLF generators for planned assessment work.
03
Standardize reporting
BAUR Software 4 supports condition information, repeatable workflows, and reporting for maintenance teams and asset managers.
Select the BAUR PD solution for your test workflow.
BAUR PD category includes online PD spot testing, portable PD diagnostics, combined VLF TD/PD test systems, and software support.

Share your cable voltage class, whether testing must be online or offline, available VLF equipment, diagnostic goals, and reporting needs. we can help recommend the practical BAUR PD configuration.
Common questions when selecting a BAUR partial discharge testing solution.
What is the difference between online and offline PD testing?
Online PD testing is performed while cable routes remain in normal operation, such as with Liona spot testing. Offline PD diagnostics are performed during planned testing and may use portable PD systems with a BAUR VLF generator.
Which BAUR products are listed for portable PD diagnostics?
PD-TaD 62 and PD-TaD 80 as BAUR portable partial discharge diagnostics systems used in combination with a BAUR VLF generator.
Which product combines VLF, tan delta, and PD diagnostics?
PHG 80TD/PD is listed as a BAUR VLF diagnostic test system with truesinus® for cable testing and diagnostics with TD/PD workflow.
What role does BAUR Software 4 play?
BAUR Software 4 supports BAUR testing and diagnostics workflows with condition information, data organization, and reporting support for maintenance and asset-management teams.
How should I choose the right BAUR PD solution?
Selection depends on whether the test must be online or offline, whether a BAUR VLF generator is available, whether tan delta results are also required, and how the data will be reported or trended. we can help confirm the best configuration.

Partial discharges occur at faults in the cable, e.g. at electrical trees, joints and terminations. Partial discharge diagnostics is used to determine possible fault locations in cables and accessories before they lead to failure. This makes it possible to rectify the problem in a timely manner and prevent any subsequent damage resulting from uncontrolled failures. Partial discharge measurement is effected in accordance with standard IEC 60270.
Partial discharge measurement can detect the following:
Faults in new and old cable accessories, such as incorrectly fitted joints
Faults in the insulation of XLPE cables (e.g. electrical trees)
Insufficient mass-impregnated paper insulation due to drying
Mechanical damage to the cable sheath
BAUR PD measuring devices can diagnose the following:
PD localisation
PD level
PD inception voltage / extinction voltage
PD frequency
Supporting functions
Phase-resolved PD presentation for every
Fault
PD interference filter function
Joint localisation
Phase-resolved PD presentation (PRPD)
The phasing of partial discharges can be determined through state-of-the-art analysis methods. This makes it possible for you to assign the fault to diverse types of fault and to plan subsequent measurements as well as repair measures in a target-oriented and time- and cost-saving manner.
